Our take
For patient riggers with a long evening and a deep shelf. Six hundred-odd glue-free parts, thirteen silk-screened sails, about ten hours ending in a static ship — the helm turns, the deck canoe slides to reveal 26 cannons, and that is all the motion there is. Retailer notes warn the sails only hang right if you follow the rigging sequence exactly. Anyone wanting a mechanism at the finish should look elsewhere.

What works

What to watch for
- Retailer build notes flag the rigging stage specifically: the sails only sit correctly if you follow the sequence exactly, and it is the least forgiving phase of the build
- A ~10-hour build with no mechanism reward at the end — no motor, no light, no hand-crank action beyond the helm and cannon reveal
- It is physically large; 47 cm of hull plus 39 cm of masts needs dedicated display space and is awkward to move once rigged
- Listed price varies a lot between the official store and resellers, so it is worth comparing before buying
